Fullmetal Alchemist is the name of the original anime series which was released beginning in 2003. It ran from October 4th, 2003 to October 4th, 2004 in Japan, and from November 6th, 2004 to March 18th, 2006 in the US in Canada. It is based off of the Manga until about halfway through when it branches off with an entirely different plot.

[edit] Fullmetal Alchemist DVD Releases

Over the course of this series air time, it released thirteen DVDs in order of the series, from December 17th, 2003 to January 26th, 2005 in Japan. When the series began to air in English speaking countries, the English Dub of it produced by Funimation Entertainment was also released from February 8th, 2005 to September 12th, 2006 in the United States.

In addition to this DVD release, there were also five original video animations (OVAs) that were released. These OVAs were released separately from the series itself and did not advance the plot or continue the story.
